Come and try for tandem stokers

On Saturday 16 September 2017 Fitability held a tandem riding Come and Try outside the National Museum of Australia.

Six budding tandem cyclists came along as their vision impairment or other disability means it is hard for them to ride alone.2017 Come and Try participants

Although the morning had been showery, windy and icy cold, in the afternoon the sun shone warmly and the wind died down.  Tandem bikes piloted by our volunteers adventured around the museum, safely meeting an angry magpie, and even going off road when the cycle path petered out.

Two of the tandems disappeared for a while... and then returned.  One new rider and pilot had cycled half way around Lake Burley Griffin!  Another had gone to explore the Australian National University.  It is amazing how far you can go on a bike with minimal effort even if you have never ridden a tandem.

One new rider who planned to take the bus home ended up riding a tandem home instead - dropped off at her door by her pilot.
